Although the water supply is of national importance, it is usually the responsibility of the municipalities. Greater integration would allow better security of supply and quality assurance.

While Swissgrid is a public limited company, its business model is completely different to those of other companies.

To ensure the security of supply in the canton of Grisons and the transportation of Engadine hydropower, Swissgrid is adding another «system» to the line.

The commissioning of a new extra-high-voltage line does not happen every day. And the commissioning of the new 380 kV line between Beznau and Mettlen on 19 May was even more exceptional.

The construction of the new 30-km-long extra-high voltage line in Goms is making great progress. On the section between Ernen and Ulrichen, electricity has been flowing at 380 kilovolts since October 2019. However, the work is not quite finished yet.

Battery storage in the basement helps to stabilise the transmission grid.

A problem with this supply would make the already challenging situation even more difficult.

On 20 December, BKW will shut down the Mühleberg nuclear power plant. Forever. The power plant will be switched off and dismantled. This will result in the loss of around 370 megawatts in electricity production in the Bern region.

Swissgrid has never before had access to such precise data on the lines. The entire Swiss transmission grid is recorded in this new digital 3D model.
